Might as well jump up to the 875...

If the price difference is only 150 bucks or so; why not get the 805 and be done with it.

I seriously doubt he is going to need an ext amp to power the Boston Acoustics speakers, they are very efficient and don't need the gobs of power of even the TX-SR805. Saving money on the receiver allows you to put the remainder of your budget to something else, like an HD player or a bigger, badder subwoofer. Getting a huge receiver to power efficient speakers isn't going to do much, but getting a better subwoofer will.

Alright you guys. The sky is the limit! I think the 805 is it. After all I'm not the RCA dog I used to be anymore. Lost some hearing around guns, loud machinery and loud music and at my age I don't think I would hear the difference above that!

Why are you set on getting the TX-SR805?

Above the 705 I thought that the extra power might be of help! Other than that the specs are pretty much the same?

Nope, remember early on I said he could get the 661 as any of the mid-level AVR will power what he has.
I guess I just thought everyone was going crazy for more power.:D

Those speakers are very efficient and are easy loads, for those speakers the TX-SR605 is plenty of power. I power my Boston Acoustics HD10 speakers, which are 90 dB 1watt/meter and run pretty steadily at 8 ohms, with the Teac in my signature. While it is only 25 watts RMS per channel I can drive my speakers to crazy levels of output in my 18x12 room.

So you know my speakers and my room is 30 x 30. Primary use is movies and music. Will replace my older Mitsubishi 60" proj TV, upgrade my direct tv to HD and purchase a HD dvd player down the road. I'll use my Yamaha for amping the zone 2 out of the pre outs around the rest of my house. Which one will serve my purpose best the 705 or the 805? Don't want to spend more than I have to but don't want to regret it later!

My philosophy is get the MOST you can afford without breaking the bank and making your wife furious. It's a very delicate balance.:D
