Down-firing subwoofer choices?

My current subwoofer is on the fritz, and I am looking to replace it with a down-firing subwoofer(s) (protection against toddler and dogs). I am considering an SVS PB-12 Plus/2 or two Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EXs. I was hoping someone could shed some light if they have compared these subs. The Outlaw Audio sub is a repackaged Hsu VTF3-mk3 HO but with the amp of the VTF3-Mk3.

I would also entertain any other down-firing sub suggestions in the $1200-1500 range (this can be stretched if necessary). I know the RELs (too expensive for the output wanted) and ERAs (not enough output), and I have heard of MJ Accoustics (don't know anything about them). I think Martin Logan also has a sub (Abyss?) that can be configued as down-firing but I have only heard their Descent and Depth. Any other suggestions or thoughts on choices?

Cheers.

How large is your room? The dual Outlaws for $999 right now would be my choice for the money! :D The dual setup should really help to flatten your room's bass response which makes a world of difference. As you know, the HSUs would also fit into your budget.

You might want to check out Elemental Designs also (www.elementaldesigns.com) if you don't mind a build to order wait time. They have a couple of choices for downfiring subwoofers. For $1430 shipped you could get dual A5-350 15" subwoofers with the upgraded 550 watt amp.

About 3700 cu ft.

The room itself is about 3700 cu ft. but has openings into the kitchen (2200 cu ft.), a hall (about 350 cu ft.), and stairs.

I think the Outlaws look better, are cheaper and have a down-firing port (which supposedly helps w/ hearing any port chuffing)

I forgot about the eD subs. How do these sound? They have great output but do they sound good?
