Down Firing Port lying on its side? What happens?

I have the Energy S12.3 subwoofer,

and am having a problem in that the sub is in my viewing area. The sub is downward ported, driver forward. If I leave it standing up normal the subwoofer runs 3 inches into the screen. I was hoping I could lay the speaker on its side, as the side width would work fine. If I position the port against the wall where the screen is, it seems like it is essentially still a down ported sub. What would happen if I laid the speaker on its side, with the driver facing forward, and the port facing either left or right wall? Would it make the frequency response not as low? Any suggestions?

You should be just fine...

I have seen some SVS Cylinder subs laying on their sides, and those people have no problems whatsoever....

As long as your port is not obstructed, everything will work just as before... :)

I know a guy who does that with his Hsu with no problems. I can not remember the model, buy it's one of the bigger ones with the 12 inch driver.

Cool

I love this forum. I had not even thought of that. I have a downward firing sub that fits in my room now but won't fit once I get my new entertainment center. Sitting on its side, it just might work. I'll have to go try it.
