Hey all, I am workin on yet another design. Basically a pretty looking end table paneled with Trespa and 1 3/4" Aluminum angle to trim the edges. Anyway, it is still a down firing unit but i was also considering making it down ported as well. The unit has a footprint of 26" x 30" and sits up on 2" diameter brushed aluminum legs that are 3" tall. I figure that if there is any port noise, the carpet may help mute it... Anyways, what do you think? Down firing ports a good idea or not. They would be 4" in dia (and 17" long). I am almost done with shop drawings and I will post them when I finish them. The box would have a gross volume of 8.48 cu. ft. which would be pretty tasty with 2 dayton 12" HF's:D

OK, this is what I have so far. It's not too detailed but not bad for 15 minutes:p

What do you all think?

I thought that ports should be at least the distance of their diameter from a flat surface. So you should stand it up 4" rather than 3".

I think you would do better to post this in one of the DIY speaker areas like in HTGuide or diyAudio to get more responses.
