Dear sir....

i am plannin 2 setup a subwoofer n 4 other speakers ...i am plannin 2 buy a subwoofer ...say 10" with 200-250 wats.. the problem is the amplifier is usually connected b4 the crossover netowrk rite... n my other speakers r rated as 5 watts.. 4 ohms ( with prrty gud cone area which i plan 2 use as midrange...) the tweeter too is of the same specs.... to power the subwoofer i will have 2 use a amplifier of 250 wats which will be connected 2 thecrossover network... the other speakers r also connected to the croosover
..so wont the power from the amplifier burn my "other speakers"...or can i give the input into the crossover thru a small amplifier ... then from the crossover thru the 250 watt amplifier to the subwoofer

Asphincter says what?

My head hurts from reading your grammar...

From what little I can decipher, you're looking into buying a sub and integrating it w/your current setup. If so, most, if not all new subwoofers are amplified, meaning they don't require any power amplification from the receiver. As such, the only thing going to the sub would be the signal via subwoofer pre-out from your receiver,

If your receiver does not have a sub pre-out nor an internal crossover setting (they usually go hand-in-hand), you would need to run speaker wires to the sub and use the high level inputs of the sub to route the signal through the sub's crossover, then run speaker wires from the high level outputs back to your mains. In this scenario, the frequency level that is sent to your mains will be determined by the crossover on your sub, not the receiver and as such, you can set the FR to whatever you'd like on the subs crossover.

This may be one of the toughest postings I've had to decode, but hopefully, this is what you're looking for.... -TD

problem

first of all.....THANX A looot.....i am beginner..i am really impressed with quick n clear response..so many ppl 2 help me out...

i am not planning 2 buy a assembled subwoofer...i am only planning 2 buy a driver n fit in a cabinet i am gonna build... so v dont have a amplifier build with the driver...its jus the driver alone

Ahh.... I think I gotcha...

I think I have a grasp now on what you're saying, your questions are related to the fact that you're building a sub.

If so, I would suggest building an amplified sub. Quite often, this is what most DIY (Do It Yourself) Sub builders will do, mainly due to the fact that LFE or low frequencies require a decent amount of amplification and if you're running a passive sub with just an A/V receiver, you're likely to drain a lot of the power of the internal amps of the receiver just for the sub.

Here's an example at Parts Express of a DIY 10" Subwoofer Kit. As you'll see, they're using a built-in amplifier to power the "10 driver in this unit. While it is more expensive than using the amplifier of an A/V receiver, it will sound much better and will extend the life of your receiver at the same time.

Hopefully this helps... -TD

still doubt

i still have a question sir.......plz help me withh the wiring..

take the signal from the "headphone socket" ... into a tiny 7 watt amplifier (powered with IC 810..abs no distortion when i used that )... from the amplifier to the network crossover.... n from the crossover ....the midrange n the tweeters r directly connected... ( as they receive the signal from the crossover which is already amplified ( the tiney 7 watt amplifier...) )

now the subwoofer.... the signal which is taken from crossover is then fed into a 50 watt amplifier ( will that be enuff for a 200 watt sub if i am not planning to run it at max volume) n then into the actualy sub....

thanx for the Dayton suggestion...as i am a student my means r very limited n besides i Luv 2 BUILD.lol...

is this wriring fine

Is this setup for a car system or a Home Theater setup?!
