Rjbudz – I’ve noticed Pannie has been a little reluctant to emphasize their use of class D amps within their products. May be because “D” amps have a bad rap, not undeservingly 50-years ago when they were invented. Contemporary advances in metallurgy and circuit design is yielding a vastly superior class D amp with distortion pushed above the audio range. I wouldn’t be surprised if class D amps end up dominating the audiophile market.

Class D amps use less power and thus generate less heat, so they are desirable in applications where low air circulation would allow heat to otherwise build up, and where there is a finite power supply (battery pwr)…think car stereos, communications devices, etc.

Class D amps are not digital, but we refer to them as such because, as it says in the post above, the switching is either on or off, similar to how digital devices work, sensing voltage (on) or not (off).
