What DVD titles have you been proud to double dip on? I'll kick it off, my proudly double dipped titles are

King Kong (2005) Technically not a double dipper yet.
Dune (1984) Actually a quadruple dip VHS, LD, DVD (2x)

****.....double dipping is always an issue.....I hate it when I have to do it....let me see offhand....

John Carpenter's The Fog
Bad Boys/Bad Boys II (upgraded to Superbit for both)
The Patriot (uprgaded to Superbit)
Crimson Tide
Tombstone Vista Series
Blue Thunder

Man, this list can go ON AND ON, and I didnt even finish double dipping yet nor finished considering upgrading to high def titles!!

I double dipped on Tombstone also for the Vista series, and it was worth it.

Underworld - got the SE, sold the theatrical release, didn't bother with the Superbit.

Picked up the infamous extended Dune...

Fifth Element: UE (Fifth Element was the first DVD I ever bought back when DVDs first came out :D )

I can't entirely explain why, but I liked Stargate and double dipped on it for the SE.

Double and triple dipped on some of the Superbit titles like Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Doubled on Bram Stoker's Dracula and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon because the SB was much better looking on both.

Yup, the VISTA SERIES of Tombstone was WELL WORTH IT, definitely, as the 16X9 transfer and audio improvments were evident over that shitty original version Disney put out before that with the stereo 2.0 track...the DTS opens up that whole soundtrack on the VISTA series...listen to how the horses stampede around the room in the opening title sequence in DTS....wow.

I want to buy UNDERWORLD in SUPERBIT as I have heard the sound is off the wall from my editors over at Home Theater, but I never saw the film....is it worth blind buying? Was it good? I loved that piece of *** Beckinsale in Van Helsing, so I thought she would be good in this....is it worth a blind buy?

The other SUPERBITS were, well, some not so dramatically better than their original versions -- Bad Boys and Bad Boys II already sounded AWESOME in Dolby Digital, and so did THE PATRIOT, so the DTS tracks didnt floor me all that much on the Superbit upgrades, but I did it, so now I have those versions....:(

I've only double dipped the first Matrix, and the Indiana Jones series. Luckily I'm young enough to have been old enough to buy movies when DVD's were popular (Does that make sense?).

Underworld has pretty good sound, but overall not the best example of a vampire action movie in my book. Video quality is decent. Half decent story, but not as entertaining as Van Helsing, Blade, or BladeII IMO. Not quite enough action in the first movie. I bought it and I've watched it a few times, mostly for Kate... Second one had way more action and gore and Kate, but sort of stumbled a bit on story.

Gladiator dts and the double disk editon. Both are great (if you're really bored, you can see the extra 19 minutes of the movie that was cut, as well as a couple of hours of behind the scenes stuff...it all actually does add another dimension, or more depth to the movie), but nothing beats Gladiator dts sound.

Thanks for the info; is it worth a blind buy and how's the DTS audio on the Superbit version?

Doh, forgot that one - I double dipped on Gladiator too. IMO, it wasn't worth it. There is already a ton of extra stuff on the Signature Series version. A few of the added scenes were beneficial, but not all of them in the extended cut.

If you like that kind of flick, I'd say it is worth it. The sound was already pretty good on the DD version, the DTS is a bit better, but neither is extremely aggressive with the surrounds. I haven't heard the Superbit, I have the SE "director's cut" which didn't really add much of any real benefit. If I were buying it today, I'd probably go for the SB because it is $9.99 at Best Buy.

ABSOLUTELY agreed here; there is more than enough extra crap on the Signature Selection, plus that DTS track....it is the definitive cut of Gladiator, no doubt.

Thanks for the info; yeah, all the Superbits have dropped to 10 bucks at Best Buy, so I swapped alot of my collection out already for them....but Underworld was going to be a blind buy for me because one of my editors over at HT magazine who contributed to the 100 Best DVDs of All Time/Build the Ultimate DVD Library issue listed the Underworld Superbit as one of the best sounding discs of the year with limitless surround usage; surprising that you say neither is aggressive (DD or DTS)....I wonder if its the same DTS track as used on the Superbit....

I looked on IMDB and didn't even see the SE listed; I don't even remember if it had a DTS track on it....I believe it did. I'll verify when I get home. It had good surround in key scenes, but it wasn't "bowl me over, have to rewind it to hear that again" kind of thing.

Interesting.....the HT community foams at the mouth about the Underworld Superbit's DTS track....I'll have to check it out one day....was just wondering if it was worth a blind buy since I loved Van Helsing.....

Checked the SE and it only has a DD track, so DTS is only on the Superbit.

Thanks Garcia,

The Superbit I knew was the only cut with the DTS track, and that was the only one I was interested in blind buying, but was just wondering if it was worth what all the hype surrounding this audio mix claims it to be.

Superbit for me if I plan to blind buy!
Thanks again.
