I'm trying to find some good cables for my system but like most i don't want to get riped off. I did a good bit of research on this site and fourm and I have a good idea what to look for now but i wanted some advice. Any one ever hear of KnuKoncepts? http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KRY2.1M sounds like a good prod but i'm not sure. I have also looked at a company calles Acoustics Lightning Corp. on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33205&item=5786271330 but I am not sure about either any adivice would be a big help.

Price seems to be right on either one. Get the lower delivered priced ones ;)

You only need these inteconnects? Speaker cables, shouldn't cost more than $.30/ft. Available at Home Depot stores. Get the 12ga-14ga. Even landscape wire will do.

I dunno about the home depot stuff. Obviously it won't sound any different than other wire, but I've seen that stuff oxidize after only a few years...INSIDE the jacket. That makes me a little leary.

Another good option is some 12ga Belden cable from Westlake. Not sure how much shipping is, but $0.17 a foot is a damn good price. And Belden is good for inwall stuff too. It's also heavy-duty enough for long runs, if you ever need to do some.

If your end connection is soldered well, what will the surface oxidation do on the rest of the wire? I say nothing that matters to the signal.

Hey, I am just seeing this part  That is a good price if shipping doesn't kill the deal :D

Well, for 1001ft of wire, the shipping would be $41.00 for ground

So totaled up, that's 211.17 for 1000ft of 12ga wire. Compare that to >$359 for Sound King from PE, before shipping. Compare that to 24 cents a foot at home depot (so $240, plus tax). Compare that to $240 before shipping at Impact Acoustics...and well. Yeah. You get my drift.

Westlake Wires

I received my 12ga wire as reccomended by Jaxvon. They are encapsulated in a grey cover. For the price, .19/ft it cant be beat.

see his post..
I would definitely go for some 10ga or 12ga speaker cable. At higher lengths, 16ga can actually cause signal attenuation due to resistive loss. The best place to get 12ga, in-wall rated wire (Belden 5000UE) is Westlake Electronic. It isn't sexy looking cable, but it's high-quality, good for running in-wall, and will have nice low resistance, inductance, and capacitance.

If you have to make the cables look prettier, check on getting some TechFlex from Parts Express or Westlake and some shrink tubing. This of course is purely for aesthetics.

Are you satisfied with your purchase? I know other people around here have also purchased the Belden stuff from Westlake per my recommendation, just wanted to know what you thought.

Yes, they are nice wires with a grey "housing" surrounding the 2 wires inside. The best part is that it's not best buy stuff for $100.00 or more. I saved a ton. Thanks for the reccomendation. :)

guys will a 12 gauge cable be thin enough to fit into the little speaker clips on the back of the reciever, and the speakers itself? Im worried it could be too thick, but then again Im a total newb. Also what is all this bananna connector nonsense? I thought I can just strip the wire and connect the red to red and black to black by inserting it into those clips?

12 awg will be fine in the spring clips of both your receiver and speakers. Bare wire is also fine. Since you have spring clips, avoid banana plugs as they are usually for 5 way binding posts. Hook it up and enjoy.

5 way binding posts allow the connection of bare wire, banana plugs, spades, and various kinds of pin connectors.

they are the best type of connector for speaker wires.
better receivers and speakers have them (generally gold plated)

and using them with dual banana plugs is beautifully simple.

cool thanks. you wouldnt happen to have a pic of what this post looks like so I can make sure whether or not I have it on my reciever/speakers. The thing I haveis circular and has a hole in the middle (is that it??) but if you inscrew it you can put the speaker cable in through a side hole that apears and the just screw it tightly while the cable gets squeezed in.

The reciever I have is an Onkyo TX-DS484 if that helps. Thanks again.

As far as I'm concerned, your best bets for inexpensive cabling are Westlake :D, Parts Express, Knu Konceptz (only stereo audio and component video, but good prices), Impact Acoustics (with the AH discount), Ram Electronics, and Blue Jeans Cable. With this array of vendors, you can get any kind of cable you can think of, at a good price.
