There seems to be the possibility that our oceans and lakes could be closed off to recreational fisherman. The stage is set and if there isnt enough to discourage it, it could very well happen. If your an outdoors man and love to fish, email your representative and tell them NO:mad:
I wonder how much they're trying to restrict? My friends just went lobster diving last weekend. I hope they got some for me. :D I know with some lakes, they actually WANT you to catch fish, well, at least the non-native (human-introduced) species that are making life tough for the native ones. Anyways, even if they go overboard (hopefully not), it must be species/location dependent? Just asking, because I don't know, and I really know nothing about fishing . . .

So have they stated the negative impact of recreational fishing? I just skimmed the article but didn't really see any specific numbers or negative implications of fishing. There are already laws to conserve fish populations in place. I guess I'm having trouble seeing why this is even an issue considering everything else in this country that needs to be dealt with.

That would be good to see. The article seems full of obfuscation to me.

The subtitle is:
Obama administration will accept no more public input for federal fishery strategy.

So this is about a federal fishery strategy? Maybe I don't fully understand what a fishery is, but I don't see much association between the article and fishery strategy.

The first sentence is:
"The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters."

(boldface for "could" is mine)

Does it or doesn't it? Is it likely to?

Real news is usually upsetting enough; but when an article spends more time focused on upsetting the reader than explaining what is actually happening, that is troubling IMHO.

PS - Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of the job Obama has been doing. I'm just tired of exaggerated rhetoric which obscures reality.

It has strong potential too, and that was in my op. Voicing the concern now can help stop it. Our fisheries off of Florida are thriving because of well established, more or less self policed state laws. The swordfish population was all but non existent here 15 years ago, now it thrives. Its the concern that recreational hunting and fishing will be banned, while accomplishing zero:(

I think that article is complete bs!! There is way too much money involved with hunting licences, fees, professional guides, transportation this would not be good for business.NO law light that would ever be passed around here.;)

I really want to know what the NOAA had to do with fishing and hunting in the USA. Just saying not gonna happen.

If they are really pushing to ban recreational fishing, let them!

With something like that in his track record, Obama will be booted out of the White House pronto, and every hunting/fishing association will get the kind of support they can only dream of now. So Obama loses clout now, gets booted in 2012, and the 2012 administration sets things back to normal.

He would be especially vulnerable since he campaigned with this document in circulation:

While I am no fan of Obama, he is not a political idiot. I believe this article is hyped.

What I find funny is how everyone says our government is broken all the time. Is it really that bad here?
