Well, it looks like the xbox 360 HD DVD player is not going to support this. At the moment, I am searching to purchase a starter system. I was never into home theater, but I want something decent.

As a receiver, I was looking at the Yamaha RX-N600 but it doesn't support it.

So; should I sell my 360 HD-DVD player and get a Toshiba A30 and get a receiver that will support Dolby TrueDH? Will a novice like my self even notice the difference? I just hate to spend almost a grand and not get some features that are already out....

Thanks

What do you currently have, what do you want, and what is your budget?

At the offset, I think you may "notice" the difference, but will not appreciate it. Without a good room and good speakers, I think your money ("a grand?") may be better spent on good speakers and or receiver than on Dolby TrueHD.

I only have an Xbox HD DVD player, and a 42' LCD 1080p Monitor.

I was planning on getting these items...

$299 Shipped: Yamaha RX-N600
$80 Sony-SS-CR3000 (center and rear speakers )
$193 Sony SSF-6000 Floor Standing 4-way Speaker Pair (2 front)
$110 Rocket Fish wireless kit for rear speakers
$78 Yamaha YSTSW012 8"

lol - My budget was 500, but these items come to 7 and change. I was planning on getting one of those packages, but quickly realized that they are crap (correct me if I'm wrong)....

My living room is somewhat small, 14' x 17' - so will this room and the speakers above relay the TrueHD sound with an addition to the Toshiba A30? I think with the A30, and a similar receiver that support TrueHD it will put me at around a grand. Do you have suggestions for different speakers around the same price? Is there anyway I can hear the specific difference somewhere? I guess a local best buy maybe...

Thanks!

If you just care about TrueHD then all you need are the following:

Sony STR-DG810 receiver
Toshiba HD-A3

That is the cheapest receiver that will do MPCM over HDMI and the A3 is the cheapest on that will decode TrueHD internally. You can get the Sony receiver for the same price as the Yamaha online and the A3 can be had for $200 with a lot of free movies.

Although if you want a better system as a whole that will trounce the Sony speakers and still keep everything around your budget you can get this:

Don't be concerned about Dolby TrueHD in this price range. Invest all into a decent receiver like the RX-N600 or the RX-V659 and get some good floorstanding speakers for now. Later when budget allows and a subwoofer, surrounds, and a center channel.

Using Sony speakers with Dolby TrueHD won't make a difference, getting better speakers will.
