Dolby Digital True HD - Onkyo Problem

Hi! I am having difficulty getting my Onkyo Receiver to play my HD DVD movies in the Dolby Digital: True HD format. Here is what I am using:

T.V: Samsung HTL6187SX/XAA

Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR805

DVD Player: Toshiba HD-A30

Speaker Set-up: 5.1 Surround Sound

DVD: 300 on HD DVD (Dolby True HD Supported)

I guess my first question is, does the True HD setting work for 5.1 or only 7.1 surround sound?

I know my receiver, HD DVD and DVD player support the format, I just cant get it to play the True HD setting when I go through the audio selection on my Onkyo. I am pretty darn sure I have everything hooked up right, I just cant figure out how to make my receiver play my movie with the True HD setting. Anyone have any suggestions? Let me know if I need to clarify anything or add additional information. Thanks for the help!

I believe* its because the A30 cannot bitstream the advanced codecs. The receiver simply sees it as already-decoded/unpacked PCM, and has no idea if it started as TrueHD, DTS-MA, or uncompressed PCM track, etc.

If you selected it on the disc menu, you are getting TrueHD, you just don't get the logo to pop up.

This is the same thing that happens with PS3 users, for instance.

Josten is 100% right. Set your HDMI Audio setting to Auto and your SPDIF audio setting to PCM.
