Hi, it seems my Creative Sound Card that I use to connect my PC to my receiver stopped working (Audigy 2 NX). I only use the sound card for optical out to my receiver. I'm looking to get a new sound card. I like the Turtle Beach ones because they have optical out. The Montego card has Dolby Digital Live which, from what I can gather, is basically software that converts any audio signal into Dolby Digital for the receiver. They have another card, the Catalina, which still has the optical out but not the Dolby Digital Live, about a $30 difference. My receiver (Onkyo 502) has Dolby PLIIx and DTS Neo.
I would be using this mainly for music and some movies (not dvds).
Is it worth it for the Montego card or am I just going to get similar sound through the Catalina and Pro Logic IIx? Maybe you have ideas for other cards around that same price range (around 50-75 dollars).
