Dolby Digital issue

I have an Onkyo TX-DS575 hooked to DirecTV HD DVR Receiver. On Dolby Digital brodcasts, the audio signal first appears DD on my Onkyo but then after about 30 minutes, it suddenly switches to Pro Logic. Also on some HD channels (which are in DD 5.1), my Onkyo only decodes DD 2.0 which is Pro Logic. I have another Onkyo which is TX-SR605 and of course I do not have this issue. Anybody know why this is occurring?

The receiver attempts to identify the format of the signal and switch to the appropriate decoder but the format changes from time to time on cable or satellite. For example, commercials may be PCM or DD 2.0 so if it was originally decoding DD 5.1 for the movie and then the format changes, it wil switch to DD 2.0. It should switch back when the 5.1 format resumes.

DD 2.0 is not ProLogic and you must mean ProLogic II as the ProLogic decoder cannot identify digital signals of any format. The receiver is likely set to use the PLII decoder for DD 2.0 signals so you get surround sound.

If that receiver supports it, I think it is best to set each format to 'last' instead of setting a specific decoder. That way you can change the decoder manually and it will remember it from then on.

Hey MDS, the issue is occurring during the HD movie encoded in 5.1 and the Onkyo TXDS575 doesnt have Pro-Logic II. My Onkyo TXSR605 in my other room never has this issue. It seems like there is something wrong with the receiver! When the switch occurs on the TXDS575, it will display DD 2.0 (Pro-Logic).
