hi just wondering, the prologic IIx, is that the one with front height channels ie 4 fronts? or is that the EX? sorry to sound naive, i know all about the various formats just wasnt sure on these two as they are listed on the specs of my Onkyo TX-SR503 but dont come up when scrolling through listening modes, and i was wondering if i need the surround back channels connected to show them.

update, i found the Dolby prologic IIx comes up with the back channels connected, this would be dolbys 7.1 channel mode would it not? what then is EX? that still did not appear although some modes such as dolby digital standard only show when the format is used on a DVD or on some DTV channels. anyone know the name of the format that allows two extra front Height channels??

dolby digital EX is 6.1, it extracts an intentionally matrixed back channel from 5.1 material, PLIIx is a decoder that will allow you to get 7 channels from ANY stereo or 5.1 source, even if not intentionally matrix encoded. this includes music, movies, tv etc. also EX only works with dolby digital material with 5.1 channels. if you are using a 7 speaker setup, best go with PLIIx rather then EX for your 5.1 content so that you can have 7 seperate channels rather then you backs being mono.
