Dolby Digital DVD Player and New DTS AV Receiver: All I need for DTS?

I have an inexpensive but reliable DVD player which has the Dolby Digital Logo, but no DTS output. It is connected, via digital coax audio out to my new AV Receiver (Yamaha HTR 6130) which includes DTS. If I insert a DTS DVD into this player, will I get the benefits of DTS sound just by virtue of the fact that my receiver processes DTS? Or will I need to purchase a new DVD player with the DTS label on it? Thanks.

If the player won't pass dts then it doesn't matter if the receiver can decode it. Just because there isn't a logo on it doesn't mean it won't do it though, so try it out. The quickest way to find out would be to go into the setup menu for the player and see if there are dts options on the digital out setup - if there aren't, then that is your answer.

You also usually have to select DTS on the DVD menu. The digital audio out also needs to be set to bitstream.

Sounds like its time to upgrade the DVD player. You can get an Oppo upconverting for a very nice price these days. You know you want too.:D
