My new house is pre-wired for 5.1 surround, however all of the speakers are in ceiling speakers. front R&L, Front center and Back L&R speakers along with 1 subwoofer.

I just purchased 5 bower & wilkins speakers, 1 pioneer elite subwoofer and the A/V receiver is a Pioneer elite VSX-90.

I was told that i would be able to run the Dolby Atmos technology through all of speakers but now i'm not sure. Can someone please assist with this?

By definition, the most you can run is 5.1 surround sound if you only have in ceiling speakers you wouldn't be able to run a proper Atomos setup anyways. In other words, any Atmos track you tried to play would get downmixed to 5.1.

This is what an Atmos setup should look like(ish).

Thanks for image. This helps a lot and it appears I need to make additional speaker purchases :/

Center/left/right should be in wall at minimum.

In my case I have floor standing mains and in ceiling front heights and in ceiling surrounds. One would argue that the set up is not completely Atmos because of the missing floor sides but to me it is and sounds good.
