Have an oppo DV-970HD, a sony KDL-46V25L1 working with an Onkyo TX-SR674. Running HDMI cables. After connections were made, no image on tv when playing DVD-sony tech services said I had to run component cables from the oppo. The sony specs read 1080p for format displayed, and 1080i, (HDTV)1080p,(HDTV) 480i(SDTV) 480p(EDTV) 720p (HDTV) under fromat supported.

Having to run component was a surprise to me as my previous Vizio set worked fine with this cabling config.

Did I overlook something on buying the sony, or have I spaced out a necessary setting or some other bonehead mistake?

So the Sony TV has HDMI inputs but you get no picture?

If you have the dvd player connected to the receiver via HDMI and the receiver connected to the TV via HDMI and have selected the HDMI input on the TV, then it should work.

If it does not then it would likely be a config issue with either the dvd player or receiver. The dvd player has to be configured to use HDMI in its setup menus and likewise for the receiver. On the receiver you have to assign the HDMI input to the dvd input selector. The Onkyo manual is pretty clear on how to do it.

Connect directly to the set and see if you get a picture, then you will know if it is the receiver or the player.

Many TVs dont support 480i on HDMI. Make sure the dvd player's video is not at this resolution.
