Does the PS3 have an underscan feature?

I mentioned to the kid of the girl I'm dating that my new BD player has underscan in its zoom features, which is great cos my TV (same model as his) has overscan built in. Then this kid -- who does have the tendency to exaggerate and understate EVERYTHING -- tells me that the PS3 (which he uses for gaming and for movie watching) has been set to stay at 5% underscan at all times. (That 5% figure is the number I pulled out to say how much overscan my TV has -- I'm not sure if it's 5% or more, but whatever.)

So I did some Googling, and some searching here, and I didn't find any mention of underscan on the PS3. Could someone clear this up for me? It would be really awesome if it does have PS3, but I don't intend to tell this kid that he's wrong; I think he just wants me to think that all his toys are more awesome than everything else! :)

Actually, I think the kid is right, there is such an adjustment in the Video setup menu of the PS3.

I've been through all the menus on the PS3 and have not found any adjustment for under/over scan.

I did a bit more research, and finally came up with a gaming forum somewhere where someone was talking about how much he hated that the PS3 has underscan built in, so that no matter what game you're playing (no mention of BDs or DVDs), there's black bars all around. I assume that that makes it great for HDTVs that do have overscan (like mine), but it sucks if your TV has no overscan, cos then you get black bars all around.

I suppose it makes sense since Sony makes (a lot of?) HDTVs with overscan. Still, to have a forced 5% underscan for everything seems a little TOO focused on your own brand.

Anyway, looks like the kid was right!

I can see adding a bit of underscan, but 5% seems a bit much, maybe 2 or 3% would be ok. They should at least give you under/over scan adjustments in the menu, it shouldn't be hard to do that.

I'm not entirely certain that the 5% figure is accurate. But not even the Oppo 83 has selectable under/overscan in its menu, at least not that I've found. I'd wager to say it's in very few, if any, players.
