Does such a thing exist?

Hi there. I'm an old keyboard player, hence my name. I just moved into a new house, it's a rental, and there is no internet connection or cable anywhere near where my entertainment centre is positioned. The wireless modem is located in the basement, don't ask!
So here's my question. In order to get my system connected to the internet, is there some kind of wireless gadget that will allow me to get my bluray player online so that I can watch my Netflix?
Now at the moment I'm just going eating moved in and haven't yet got around to getting a better tv. Laugh all you want because I'm still using an old Sony Trinitron. But hey, it works! My audio system is a Dynocord 70 tube amp with custom built Vefa speakers. I'm using an old Sansui preamp. the audio although not 5.1 surround is nonetheless killer. Eventually or most likely in a few months we're going to get some kind of very good 50 inch smart tv but today it's just not in the budget.
So is there anyway I can get my bluray player online?
Thanks in advance!
Jeremykeys, an old lost cause!

If you need a hard wired ethernet connection but can't run an ethernet cable between floors since it's a rental, I am currently having decent luck with this thing:

I have a Netgear Nightawk X6 router for wifi and that thing's been pretty bomber. Range is absurd. (in a good way)

If you don't want to go wireless, try a powerline ethernet adapter. I have one and it works great 2 floors away from the Router. ;)

I don't know about other BD players but the Oppo that I have has an USB adaptor that acts as a wireless antenna for connection.
So, you may need to looks for a BD player that has this as I don't think there is a universal device for BD players.

Thanks everybody for your quick replies! I'm hoping to reroute the Ethernet cable but I'm waiting for the owner of the house to stop by and get the go ahead or simply have him do it.

The thing with a wireless system is I'm not sure if one will automatically connect or if I have to talk to it to make it work.
Also, it looks like we're moving up the time on getting a new tv. The old one is just too small and too far away to watch. We can't read the guide! Did consider just getting some opera glasses though.
Do the latest smart tv's have wireless internet capabilities? I'm pretty sure they do. I have a wireless keyboard and receiver that I use with my bluray player. I couldn't stand using the remote to search for stuff.
Thanks again!

Typically once you're done with the initial setup, it's pretty much automatic. That said, wireless always tends to be more finicky overall than ethernet which for the most part, just always works. Don't get me wrong. Wireless CAN be bomber, but there are so many more variables when it comes to reliability.

Yeah, pretty much ALL modern TVs come with wireless capabilities. If you want to be able to use your wireless keyboard and stuff, that's where you can't beat Sony due to their use of Android OS. I've had a lot of fun with them using wireless keyboards (and mice!!!), PS4 controllers for added functionality, and they also have a great remote control app that lets you input keyboard entries from your phone as well as totally emulating the stock remote. Really cool stuff. Especially if you're a tinkerer like me.

What you want is a wireless bridge. If you search online for the best wireless ethernet bridges you will get a fair number of results and some decent articles to read about.

ie: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-wifi-extenders,review-2225.html

So, a wireless bridge is just like the name sounds like. You are bridging your wireless connection from the basement to another wireless device. This second device acts as a repeater and booster. So, it can go on the main floor, or wherever you need a boost to the signal. Sometimes you may need two or three of them to get a decent signal everywhere in your home.

It provides wired outputs as well, so you can plug in hard wired devices directly to the repeater and it will connect to your home network.

You have to configure the devices as the instructions will direct you. But, once connected you don't need to touch them again.

Typically they will mirror your home wireless settings so the SSID and password will be the same throughout your home. You will connect your wireless devices to them just like you do at any location.

Just a question... If you have the router in the basement, what is connected to your cable box? Why not put the router there instead of in the basement?

Many TVs have wireless network ability, but it won't work well if the signal strength is low enough to limit throughput. It's also possible to have great signal strength and still have bad performance/speed.

The router is in the basement because the people that own the house occasionally stay overnight in the basement. Once or twice a month for business reasons. They bought another place out in the country on a lake. Must be nice!
My wife and I are only renting the top half of the house.
I'd much prefer to have an Ethernet cable to our entertainment centre as opposed to going wireless. I'm not entirely sure why they never had a cable to their old entertainment centre though. The way the room is built, there really is only one place to put it and that's where the cables for the satellite dish run. Don't know. Next week they're going to stop by so I'm going to see if we can get a cable run. It shouldn't be too much trouble since there is one coming up through the floor in the far wall of the kitchen. They used to have an office there. Yes, I know. It sounds weird but it is what it is.
Thanks again for all your excellent suggestions!

If you're gonna eat the cost of running the coax cable or the ethernet cable and wall-mounting it, I would think that's a win-win for both you and the landlord, unless he's a Luddite. Never hurts to ask.

That's very true. It never does hurt to ask and that's something that I will be doing.
