OK. First of all, breathe. The model number should be on the front of the amp or receiver.
What is it doing or not doing? Does it power on?

Take some pics and post them so we can see how you are hooking up the amp (use photobucket.com img files). Also, a list of which receiver and amp you have would be helpful. (I'm assuming you are using an amp and receiver, and not calling a receiver an amp)

That's a receiver. You must not be from the States.

Try using the "stereo" function instead of surround sound.

If that doesn't work, try hooking the speakers up to the "B" outputs and select speaker "B" to make sure you didn't fry the outputs on "A", accidentally grounding the pos/neg terminals at the rear of the receiver.

You are sure your "mute" button is off, right? ;)

Dumb question, but did you try turning it up? At what volume is it "quiet"? The 484 is a fairly low model, so it may be that it just doesn't have enough power for what you are asking it to do.
