Does Denon receivers apply BM and TA to PCM multi-ch audio over HDMI?

Can anyone confirm that the Denon 4306, 3806, and 2807 apply bass management and time delay alignment to PCM multi-ch audio signal coming thru their HDMI input?

That is, can they apply BM and TA to PCM-converted hi-rez audio signal from DD plus, Dolby TrueHD, or SACD if the player supports the conversion?

If the Denon receivers do, we have to defeat BM and TA functions on the player that could be performed during the PCM conversion in the player. Am I right?

My understanding is that HDMI 1.1 receivers will handle the HDMI PCM signal in the same manner they would a PCM signal via digital optical or coax including bass management, etc. HDMI 1.1 will transmit DVD-A but not SACD signals.
The bass management setup on the source only comes into play when using the analog outputs, because all but a few flagship receivers do not have any bass management of the 7.1 analog inputs.

The new Oppo 970HD does convert SACD DSD signals to PCM multi-ch over HDMI. And in theory, it is possible for a player to apply BM and TA during the PCM conversion, which I think the 970HD does if speakers are set to small and distances for channels are set as well.

You want the receiver to handle the bass management on any incoming digital signals. I have yet to see a DVD player with better bass management than a mid-fi receiver (not that one doesn't exist somewhere).

I agree with you, Clint. And that is what I will do with the 970HD and the Denon 3806 (or 4306). But I wanted to make sure that the Denon receivers can apply BM and TA to PCM multi-ch audio coming thru HDMI.

Yes, the new Oppo is HDMI 1.2 and supports SACD. All of the currently availble receivers with HDMI that I am aware of are HDMI 1.1 and will only suport DVD-A digitally.

No, they support PCM-converted SACD signals over HDMI 1.1 as some 3806 and 4806 owners report this in the 970HD thread at the AVS forum.
