Does anyone remember 1981?

Hi folks: I'm actively enjoying a midlife crisis. Did the sports car, did the young girlfriend, etc. Now, it's on to a sound system. My budget is 2-3k. I recently heard the kef r300 at a local shop and was dazzled. I think I would like to start with these. I would like to stream music from my ipad and iPhone. I have lots of CDs from my youth, also.

I last purchased a "stereo" in 1981 (think Akai and Bose 501). That, to me, was the height of quality sound. I drifted away from music until a few months ago when i heard the kefs, and good god, is that a fabulous sound.

My audio shop also sells marantz, which they suggest is a good combination with the kef. I like to listen to pat methney, Ahmad Jamal, the stones, dire straits, pink Floyd and others.

Can anyone suggest a good combo of components to go with the kefs? Will also need advice on cables as it seems that the 2 dollar roll of speaker wire back in my day is no longer acceptable.

Thanks!

So am I! ...only, my wife is my age, The last A/V equipment purchase was over a year ago and I drive a 2003 Dakota...I'm doing it wrong.:D

Marantz / Denon / Yamaha, as well as others, make quality receivers that will do a great job with those speakers. Look for a receiver that has the features you need and the power required for whichever speakers you choose. (choose your speakers first!) As for wires/cables...high dollar exotic cables are a waste of money unless you like the esthetic they bring and can afford them. Use the correct type/gauge of cable/wire that is of adequate quality...so, yes, lamp cord falls under this description:).

Good luck and post what you end up with!
