I was going to break down and get a Denon 2910, but at $500 it is kinda pricey, so I ran acros the yamaha c750 DVD players and other than the interface it has some rave reviews, including a review on this site.

I don't need upconversion and will just run component cables from my DVD player, So...

is the 2910 worth the extra $200+ or should i just get the Yamaha C750?

Nearly three weeks ago I bought a Yamaha DVD-C750, mostly inspired by reading the very positive (considering the price point) review on this site. I've been very happy with it until recently, where it has started skipping pretty badly (just the audio, not the video; with any media format; I'm very sure the plug isn't loose, I tried both coaxial and optical). No one that I've spoken with is aware of this being a common issue, so I'm going to return it for another unit and give it a shot.

If that one also doesn't work out (for any reason), I'm going to give the Denon 2910 a try myself. I don't need half of its features, as I don't need HDMI and I was really hoping to wait until either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray became a standard before investing so much in a DVD player (even if I picked one up for $500, it costs more than my TV! :p).

Depending upon which path I go with, I'll soon have an update for you ;).

i was so close to getting the denon and then realized that $500 is a lot for a player and rethough it, then i read a bunch of rave reviews on the yami c750 so I thought i would go that route because I dont need HDMI/upconversion and the c750 plays all the formats i want plus it is a 5 disk changer.

Where did you get the Yami c750? online or a dealer?

I bought it at SoundTrack (a.k.a. Ultimate Electronics). I paid $280. They're hardly known for good prices (they're close to where I live, making them convenient), so you could probably best that price. I'm still waiting on my replacement (they apparently don't have them in stock frequently at this particular location).

Finally picked up the new one and I've been listening to it for about an error. It may be a bit early to call, but no skipping issues yet :). I bought my first DVD-A while I was out shopping to prove to myself that buying a universal player was worth it; and, yes, it is ;). The speaker settings (used during multichannel output only) are a little obtuse, but I set all of my speakers to large (not really true, but...) and it sounds great.

So, given nothing unexpected occuring, I won't able to really compare it to the Denon 2910. Hopefully someone comes along if you're still interested in the Denon :).
