Does adding amp affect receiver?

I have the rx-2400. I am thinking of buying a 3 channel amp to drive the two front speakers and center channel. I will be using it for movies as well as music. By hooking up the amp, does it affect the preset programs, such as Pro Logic, Stereo, Jazz etc? Hopefully that makes sense...

Nope. Assuming your RXV2400 has multi-channel preouts which I think it has, you can selectively hook only the 3 front pre-outs to a 3-channel power amp and enjoy the movies and the music without affecting the receiver's preamp section. Others i know actually converted their recievers with pre-outs into preamps and got a more muscled multichannel power amp for either a more powerful or a better sounding set-up.
