The buzz is there are Dolby Atmos and HDMI 2.0 AVRs and processors coming this fall.

I have a 5.1 system and there is not a snowballs chance that I will be adding more speakers. Still the Object oriented architecture might be interesting if object can be mapped to produce better surround in my system.

Here is an article on AV8801 a French site:

Thanks for the heads up. I look forward to this getting into receivers that I'd be willing to buy, just to try it out.

Dolby Atmos & DTS MDA are the future, but it will take some time before source material supporting these are available..

Just my $0.05... ;)

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this works with a basic 5.1 system. Maybe better seamless sound from front to rear? How soon?

Atmos is a hoot. On AVS there is information that the no current products include positional information so that 4 objects that can be placed have assumed positions. Just like the current fixed speakers only processed at your home.

So, it seems that there is no benefit to any 5.1 or 7.1 system.

This image had me laughing for a while:

Honey, have you seen my living room plan :p
The interesting side-effect is that you are now alone, long since abandoned by family and friends :D

Rich spot on, unless you have a dedicated HT room with the dimensions to support ATMOS not to mention the acoustic treatments and seating I just don't see the benefit. There are movies out there Dolby Atmos Movie Releases that allow a person to "attempt" to enjoy this new experience but at what cost. Like you said, "Honey, have you seen my living room plan " or better yet my new room addition on the back of the house LOL. The white papers on ATMOS are here Dolby Atmos Cinema Sound

Dolby Atmos will only fair well in a dedicated HT room which many of us do not have. I won't be jumping on that band wagon. I've successfully avoided 3D so far and plan too for as long as I possibly can.
