Do the Fluance XL7F need a power amp if I'm running a Denon AVR-S900W?

Hi,

I am new to putting together a stereo. I always used to buy a surround sound system already put together or but a portable stereo with a handle or just use headphones. But putting adding individual components has its personal touch and it has a better sound as I understand it.

I currently have Fluance XL7F floor speakers with the following specs:
SYSTEM TYPE 3 Way - 4 Driver Floorstanding Main Speakers
TWEETER 1 inch Neodymium Balanced Silk Dome Ferrofluid Cooled
MIDRANGE Dual 6.5 inch Polymer Treated Butyl Rubber Surrounds Separate Enclosures
WOOFER Isolated Down-firing 8 inch Polymer Treated High Excursion with Butyl Rubber Surround
POWER HANDLING 80 - 200 Watts
FREQUENCY RESPONSE 45Hz - 20KHz
SENSITIVITY 89dB
CROSSOVER FREQUENCY 800/3500 Hz Phase Coherent - PCB Mounted Circuitry
IMPEDANCE 4 ~ 8 Ohms
ENCLOSURE Tuned Rear Port Bass Reflex Tower Design
DIMENSIONS (H X W X D) 45.8 x 8.5 x 13.4 inch
WEIGHT 45.2 pounds/speaker

and I have the Denon AVR-S900W on the way with the following specs:
Power and Processing:
7-channel amplifier
  • 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.08% THD, with 2 channels driven
  • Dolby® and DTS® surround sound decoding, including Dolby Pro Logic® IIz
  • upscales standard-definition video signals to HD and Ultra HD (up to 4K)
  • Audyssey "Bronze" speaker calibration and system optimization includes:
    • MultEQ® auto setup and room calibration delivers balanced, dynamic sound for as many as six seating positions (microphone included)
    • Dynamic Volume anticipates loud sounds to keep volume levels even
    • Dynamic EQ improves dialogue, bass response, and surround channel levels at lower volumes
Will the Devon be enough to power the Fluance speakers? Or do I need to get a power amp? If so, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matt

Most separate amplifiers employed in home theater are wanted rather than needed. If AV receivers didn't handle most home theater installations competently, they would disappear from the market place. Obviously that hasn't happened. A better use of the money would be to add a subwoofer to your buying plan.

And plug em in and decide for yourself! Some people listen at ear bleeding levels, while some do not. If you cherish your hearing, this Denon should be more than adequate, even as you incorporate surround speakers.
