Do projectors really require a battery backup?

Do projectors really require a battery backup based on the bulb cooling time required before restart during a power loss situation or can they handle normal 10-45second outages like we see more of during the summer?

A power outage that prevents the bulb cooling cycle from completing can reduce bulb life by nearly 40%. A battery backup is definetely recommended, especially if you have frequent power failures.

UPS For Projectors

Just be aware that projectors need some serious power to keep them running. Even for the few seconds it take you to put the projector in "cool down" mode. You'll need at least a 750VA to 1,000VA. I tried a 500VA with no success. I bought my units from the APC Factory Outlet on-line. You'll have to check their site out often since the inventory changes frequently.

What happened? Did it power it for any time at all?
Cooldown can take many minutes and some lamps are way up there.

It overloaded the UPS and tripped it out
It was only a BackUPS 500.

VA does not determine run time. VA determines the load capacity. The battery amp hours determine the run time. A larger VA rated UPS from the same line will typically have a larger battery as compared one of lower rated VA from the same line. But a 1000 VA UPS from one line or manufacturer compared to another may have a different size battery, resulting in different run times.
