Do I need HDMI scaling??

I am putting together my system piece by piece. I have a 50" 720p Panasonic Plasma, an HD Comcast Box, a non-HD Tivo (which I intend to use as my primary DVR), and I have not selected a receiver.

Would there be a benefit to me getting a receiver that does the scaling (Yamaha rx-v2600) or just stick with a non-scaling receiver? Several hundreds difference in prices it seems.

I would simply say no! The scaling done by the receiver can be beneficial if you have multi components with hdmi. As for video IMO a direct connection to your tv is the way to go.:)

I have to run about 100' from the receiver to the TV, so the Gefen HDMI/Cat5 is my only option I've found. No Svideo or Component cable options are available for non-HD programming like will be coming out of my TIVO.

That is an awfully long run! There may be some reliability issues using HDMI? Why aren't the other two an option?

Isn't 100' too far for standard cabling? The Gefen HDMI/Cat5 solution is supposed to be good up to 330'.
