do i need a DAC?

hey folks

after research, acquired a nice emotiva 24/192 DAC for $499. chatting with marantz and looking at my system specs, my SR7008 receiver has 2 good 24/192 DACs in it already.

would adding this external DAC improve music streaming, or even CD's? granted it's beefier and can likely add something to the sound, but what?

hoping to get this answered within the hour as it's sitting in my mailbox from amazon, and i may just send it back unopened…..

If you can return the emotiva (xda2 I assume) do that. It would not be better or worse than one in your marantz

Does your room have acoustic treatments / bass traps? If not, there's a more profound and more easily measured improvement to be had from that direction. I vote send the DAC back. The DAC on the Marantz is already quite good.

thanks gents. it's for my home stereo currently in my lounge and living room. L shaped, fair amount of windows and a large opening into the hall. likely not the easiest room.

i am taking your advice and sending the unit straight back. i actually tried to cancel it the end of the day following it's order, but too late. i reckoned as its on the way anyways, i would at least try.
