On regular DVD's in 5.1, do I get 7.1 when I use DD EX? Or do I have to use PLIIx on these 5.1 DVD's to get 7.1?

On DD EX DVD's, I assume my THX ULtra2 automatically picks up the EX content?

Yes, I have 7.1 speakers! (3fr, 2 surr sides, 2 back, sub)

Either way should give you 7.1, but I'm not sure if forcing EX with a standard 5.1 track will give you the best results. IIx is designed to be used with non-EX 5.1 tracks. Basically try both for each movie, as the results will vary, and see which sounds best.

No, your receiver may not pick up ALL EX movies, as there are movies out there that are incorrectly flagged and many if not all receivers will not automatically detect all EX tracks.

You have to change from DD to DDplxii sometimes. On some movies the plxii sends the surround sound (sides) to the back speakers and you get nothing, or nearly nothing, from the sides. Sometimes I find this irritating, sometimes it doesn't bother me, depends on what kind of movie it is. I've found that for most movies it decodes fine.
