Do Expensive Speakers Really Make a Big Difference?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been upgrading my setup slowly and keep coming across discussions about high-end speakers vs more budget-friendly options.

Some people say the difference is huge and totally worth it, while others claim that once you hit a certain level, the improvements become very minor.

For someone with a mid-range setup, is it really worth investing heavily in premium speakers, or is it better to focus on things like room acoustics and placement first?

Curious to hear real experiences from people who’ve upgraded over time

Your quite correct, Some people start a thread and then we never hear from them again. Which really makes there question pointless

As to the question regarding costs. You really only get what you pay for. Pay peanuts, get monkeys
Speakers are only as good as the amplification your using.

It might be an idea if you provide examples of what your considering buying. and the costs.involved.

I have been thinking about how to address your question.

The honest answer is that changing speakers always makes a difference irrespective of price. That is the sad fact of speaker manufacture design and marketing.

If you go to dealers, if you can now find one, they generally have a switch that can go from one to the next pair. Everytime I have been through this drill they all sound notably different and certainly price or even the same brand does not alter this. So, I have had the habit of nautilly asking the salesmen, which pair of speakers is correct? That is very "naughty" I know.

I have been designing and building my own speakers for over 70 years now. I can tell you that by far the biggest challenge is building accuracy and consistency into your designs, and especially the latter.
