I have 2 projectors and am wondering which will be better for a home theatre system playing dvd's. One is a lcd panasonic ptl730ntu the other is a dlp benq pb8250. The panasonic doesn't have a dvi hookup like the benq, it only has rca jacks or the db15 input. Which projector will give me a better picture and what cabling should i use.

Would a blue ray player make the picture alot better?

I also bought one of the samsung surround systems and am wondering if it is a good system.

Thanks

I would have to say that the Benq DLP will produce a sharper picture.
If the Benq has component inputs then you would need that to hook up the BD player. If it has HDMI even better but I don't think it does.

My friend bought one of those Samsung systems from Sams Club and he loves it. I've heard it with xbox video games and it sounds good to me.

The DLP will likely be a bit better, but neither of those projectors is a home theater model, so they will all have their limitations over projectors designed from the ground up for home theater use.

The Samsung System? Which one? Generally speaking, there's a lot of information about any products you are looking to buy available, and the right time to ask if something is good would not fall on the day AFTER you buy it.

So, if you own it, and you can't return it, does it matter what anyone says?

If you can return it, and want more information, then I would actively persue that information in the audio section of these forums, and include the make and model number. Kind of like asking of my "Chevy" is any good. Hard to answer without the actual model number of the Chevy I own.

The projectors...
The Panasonic has been out of production for about five years now and with current projection technologies, could easily be bested by a sub $1,000 projector.

The BenQ...

Is only a couple of years out of production, and includes the DVI connection. Unfortunately, it does not list or indicate HDCP compliance on this DVI connection, so there is no guarantee of any compatibility with HDMI enabled devices (regardless of buying any cables to make it fit). It still steps up as far better than the Panasonic, but it is a long ways away from being a excellent - or even a decent - home theater projector.

You can watch 3D stuff with a DLP projector (with proper equipment), at the current moment you cant with LCD.

I think the DLP vs. LCD debate is pretty old now, but FWIW I'm on the DLP side of the fence... Like somebody else mentioned though, if they're not home theater projectors, the contrast and brightness are going to be off for theater use.

I use a PS3 and love it, hooked up with component cables (ie. RGB cables)...

Not sure on the samsung system, I'm not a big fan of home theater in a box. It depends on what you're going for but generally you get what you pay for.

Hope this helps,

Aaron
