alright, so first off, i'm a super noob.

Sub: Adire Audio Tempest 15"
Amp: PE Bash 500watt
Port: 4" flared
Enclosure: 18" diameter tube (biggest i can find locally)

i need help with figuring out how long i need to cut the tube and port.

if i use winisd and This Calculator

for a 9.5 cuft enclosure tuned to about 17-19hz i come up with:

a tube length of about 66" and a port lenth of 7.75"

i've got all the tools necessary to cut the tube and ends, just need to know if this is correct.

thanks for the help :)

BTW sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Did you check with Adire? Somewhere on their forums there should be plans for the design mine was build with (Low Q, single vent). I know the guy who recommended that particular configuration, though I haven't talked to him in years; I'll see if I can locate him. Mine is 48" tall, 18" in diameter, so minus about 6" of feet and stand, that would make it ~42" of tube only. My vent is 4" and I think it is about 12" long, I don't remember. I run it with a Rythmik Audio 350w plate amp and it sounds great.

i actually posted over in the adire forum and kyle from acoustic visions was giving me some pointers.

everyone that i've talked to has said that a single 4" port was too small, so i picked up another one just in case.

your actual volume is around 6 cuft and it's tuned to about 19 hz (so says winisd).

i'm willing to give a little of low end response for a tighter sound. however, i do want it to be able to go low.

how does enclosure volume change the q of a subwoofer? i'm pretty new to this and i'm investing time in research before i go build something that sounds awful.

here's the threat i posted in the adire forum

I have to get the actual specs from the guy who built it. This is not the more common configuration recommended for this sub, but it has such tremendous output even in this config that I can't imagine needing more than that (and I have a good size room). It goes plenty low in my room, at ref cal I get 74.5dB at 16Hz.

I know mine is tuned to 17.5Hz, so it must be a larger or longer port, maybe 6"? (single).

I recommend the driver on the bottom and the port on the top. You can see here what my buddy did:

Here is what my buddy said:

The tempest design is 6.1ft^3 4" flared port which I
think is 11" long in the mid section but I will have
to double check on that. You could probably measure
it on the sub. I used 18" sonotube which was the
smallest you can go for the 15" tempest. I also used
3 layers of 3/4 MDF for the endcaps. I'll try and
find the email from Dan Wiggins himself explaining the
design.

thanks a bunch man. that looks pretty nice. what's the tube itself finished in?

i'm not sure whether to carpet, or soak some veneer and bend it.

it sounds like i'll be happy with anything from 6-9 cubes.

It is finished in carpet. I have been pondering what to refinish it in too, but in my current setup you don't even see it, so I'm in no rush.

I have absolutely no problems with port noise either, and this thing can really move air :)
