I'm designing a new home theater in my basement. I'm seriously contemplating building my own speakers for my 7.1 home theater. I've concluded how I will build by LCR and sub, but I'm having some difficulty designing the Left and Right 2-way surrounds.
Specifically, I'd like to make the L/R surrounds switchable (i.e. with a switch or better yet remote controlled signal such as a 12 Volt signal line) to flip from Dipole to Bipole modes. Each surrounds would have 2-1" tweeters and 2-4"midwoofers similar to Klipsch ks-525's however, I won't be using horns.
Essentially, I'm trying to control the phase of each array. In bipole mode, speakers in both arrays would move outward under + and inword under -. In dipole mode, the arrays would fire opposite with respect to one another - i.e. one array + the other -.
I'm assuming that I will build one 2-way crossover for each surround speaker and apply switch control after the xover in front of the drivers.
Does anyone have any guidance how I could control the modes using a switch? Would be useful to know where to buy the switches?
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks
