DIY subdude. What should I make it out of?

I've looked around to see what people have been making DIY subdude's out of and I can't really seem to find a set of plans, or a specific build.

Building the platform would be really easy, but what material would be good to decouple the sub from the floor?

I've read before that you should be looking for acoustical foam. Where you could find that? Not so sure :p

Plywood covered by carpet with whatever dense packing foam you can locate. I don't think there is anything special about the foam besides its ability to support more than the weight of your sub.

I know where to get that. Guitarcenter has it, but it is not near as dense as what is used for the subdude. I could layer two pieces and I guess that would work pretty well. Thanks for the idea.

You will need some very Dense foam to prevent the foam from becoming overly compressed. Check here www.mcmaster.com as they have any variety of foam you may need for this application and others.

That is true, I had thought they were more for some reason.
