diy sub application

I have an Adire Brahma Mark II sub just sitting around, it was an expensive sub and requires a hefty amp, i also live in a military barracks in a small room, that being said, would it be cheaper/better in terms of musical quality and $$$ to construct a box and buy an amp or to just buy a sub from outlaw or svs? also would it be even possible to get a musical sub that was designed for a car in a home theater application, current set up is a denon 3806 and (4) infinity primus 150's with a primus c25 center, (i have primus 360's, just too expensive to ship from iowa to hawaii where i am currently stationed) also, is it entirely uncommon for someone my age (21) to be more concerned with actual sound quality and not concussion causing bass? im feeling like an outsider here :)

Do you have the equipment to construct a box? If so that would bring you in well under the price of a comparable commerical sub.

Where at in Iowa are you orginally from? I was born in raised in a rinky-dink town in the southwestern part of the state.

i do have access to limited tools, a table saw and a jigsaw being the only power tools, but i am curious as to what commercial sub would be comparable to something like this projoect? and does anybody have the thiele parameters for an Adire Brahma Mark II? and would the box required for a car application (i used a 1.3 cubic foot sealed) be different for a room?
and i grew up in a tiny town in right in between dubuque and waterloo called ryan IA

I'm not able to answer your other questions regarding your sub specs or box design but there are plenty of people here that can, just wait.

I've heard of that town, I'm from Red Oak...about 45 minutes southeast of Council Bluffs.

I built a Madisound design sub using table saw and jig saw, and few misc hand tools. I can't compare it to anything else, but it F* ROCKS. Anybody that listens to it is impressed with the low freq bass and how the room just shakes. Of course, I had to tell the kids to listen to their cRAP on two speaker, it was just too much bass.

Email the guys over at www.adireaduio.com for the T/S parameters. They are very helpful. Then, let us know what they are and we can model a few different designs for you.

i finally got the parameters for the sub, they are as follows...
RE: 2.8 per voice coil, Z; 4 ohms p.v.c. Le (mH) 1.8, Fs: (Hz) 30, Qms: 4.70, Qes: 0.44, Qts: 0.40, Vas (L) 18, Sd (cm^2): 300, Xmax (m) 29.0, Pmax (W): 1600

its a 10'' sub, but it has the XBLtwo motor structure and is a suprisingly musical sub with good extension (in my 96 land rover) being able to use this as an indoor ht/music sub would be incredible,

The flattest, lowest response I can come up with in a vented application was a 1.25ft^3 ported enclosure tuned to 26 hz. However, the port is the problem. To keep the air speed (port noise) within reasonable limits, you will need a 3" x 15" port 136.5" long!!!!! The sealed box response was not becoming either. I would contact Adire Audio to see what they reccommend for the sub in a home theater application. A passive radiator application may be of benefit here.

Hello
I ran those T/S numbers through my BP/Calc, It appears something is not correct. I have never seen a driver that required the specified port length or diameter. A good 10" driver with high x-max and low Fs should easily fit in a small CU^3 box and have a relatively normal port length without huffing.

Upon plotting the original Brahma, it has very similar characteristics. It would appear as though the woofers are completely designed for the car. :( Again, I would contact Dan Wiggins at Adire Audio and explain the dilemma.
