Since I haven't narrowed down my sub choices at all for my upgraded home theater, I've been thinking awhile about doing a DIY sub, did it all the time for car audio so why not home audio? I think a passive sub would have a lot of benefits: no need to worry about having an electrical outlet at optimal position and no need to worry about having a long enough interconnect to get the signal to it. But I am faced with the option of what to power it, after checking out the SVS website the are selling just PA amps to go with their passive subs. I was checking out audioholics earlier today and clicked on one of the advertiser links to a website and they had a huge range of PA amps so would something like this work for a sub amp?

Edit: Forgot to add, will I need anykind of external EX or will just the frequency crossover on a reciever work?

500 watts bridged @ 4ohms would put some nice power to a single 12" sub, I know I can probably buy a manufactured sub w/ plate amp cheaper, but I think 500 watts on a 12" would pound and be great for the music I listen to and the parties I have at school. Only thing about this amp that worries me is that this amp only has XLR inputs, is there an XLR to RCA cable or adapter?
Anyways, thanks for the input guys

Yes this would be a good amp for a sub and yes there are xlr to rca adapter cables.

You might want to check out the Titanic kits also

Well for some reason the url is not posting correctly. The titanics are available from parts express. Fill in patrsexpress.com in place of the stars in the url and it will take you to the sight.
