DIY Sub... Amp has enough power?

I'm looking to power a couple of drivers in a ported box. The drivers are rated 1000W RMS / 2000W Max and they have dual 4Ohm voice coils. I'll be wiring them in series and parallel to get the same 4Ohm resistance. However, will the 500W Dayton Amplifier (plate) from PE be strong enough to power these? Or is there a chance I would damage either the amp or the drivers. I thought that it should be alright except that I've read some horror stories of people that have underpowered their subs and blew their amps. I'm not sure if I'm missing some details, but a few mentioned that they definitely heard clipping before it happened. Just wanted someone's opinion that has had more actual experience trying something like this. Thanks!

Anyone?

Can anyone provide some info on this? It would be much appreciated!

I think you might be under the impression that your amp should equal the rated power handling of your drivers. Not so. I think a 500W unit will be more than sufficient to shake your guts and maybe cause slight structural damage with that setup without breaking a sweat.

If not, well, that's why God created eBay! ;)

I'm using a 350w plate amp with my sub, which is a dual vc in 4 Ohm config, and it works great. I think your concern is that they will be drawing a lot of current in that config, and that is a valid concern IMO, but I think the 500W amp should be able to handle it. It's on sale right now too...just got the flyer last week 20% off on the 500w and 1000w.

Thanks!

Truthfully, I wasn't sure whether or not this kind of combination would be a problem. I know of the opposite being true (i.e. an amplifier having much more power than the drivers can handle), but not this scenario. I've also seen people blow their amps by trying to do 1 or 2 Ohms on a 4Ohm or 8Ohm amp (too much heat coming off of the thing even if it does work) so I was just making sure that I wasn't missing some kind of obscure problem that I wasn't aware of. Thanks a bunch!

Got the amps!

I actually bought two 500W amps because I wanted to do two dual driver subs because I may use one in another setup. I was fortunate to get them on a one day Christmas sale at PE for less than the sale price now ($10 less than it's current sale price). I just want to make sure that the configuration is good. I heard that the 500W and 1000W subs from PE had very good performance from those that have used them, so I'm looking forward to using them in the subs. Thanks for the heads up though! I was tempted to return them and get the 1000W ones, but there is a definite WAF in terms of budget as well! ;D
