Would it be possible to make a quadpolar surround similar to an Axiom QS8 by using the guts from a pair of BIC DV62si and building a new enclosure?

  • Could the crossovers just be wired in parallel to be "in phase"?
  • What would the volume of the enclosure need to be?
  • Are quadpolar speakers ported?

Interesting idea

First, the Axiom QS8s are a sealed design.

If you connected the crossovers in parallel all drivers would fire in phase, but it would be equivalent to connecting both pairs of BIC bookshef speakers to a single amp channel and would have an impedence of 4 ohms or less. Not good for most receivers. You would need to modify the crossovers to achieve the correct impedence, or connect both in series (16 ohm speaker).

I would consider copying the dimensions of the Axiom speaker if that is what you are trying to duplicate.

Post your results if you come up with something that works.
