I read an interesting article a while ago about these DIY speaker kits that you can buy in Austrailia. The article can be found here. The company Dan is referencing to is http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/ who are based in Austrailia. That's where my problem is. I'm very interested in finding a company here in the U.S. that has the same idea as LSK. I don't necessarily want to build my own speakers from scratch, rather to put together a pre-fabricated kit (to save money). If anyone has had experience or recommend a company that is based upon this same concept, your help would be greatly appreciated. There are a lot of businesses that offer this product, but I don't know which ones are considered "good" and which ones to stear clear from.

There are quite a few companies in the US that sell DIY speaker kits, or offer free plans for kits that they have designed. Most of their products are a great deal compared to retail speakers. Some of their speaker designs are excellent. Here are a few links.

I have purchased parts or kits from Madisound and Parts Express and can recommend them. The Parts Express catalog is a must if you are interested in speaker building. The others on this list seem to be reputable, but I have no first hand experience with them. Note that Parts Express, Madisound , Acoustic-Visions, and Zalytron also sell speaker cabinets for those who don't want to make their own sawdust. Have fun.
