The former article suggests that zip cord is equally suited as an interconned cable as the Belden cable.
Would appreciate a "final" recommendation. If it is the ZIP cord version, could you direct me to a DIY discussion on what conductors to attached where on the RCA connector?

The comparison you referred to was for speaker cables not interconnects. I suggest reviewing our
Cable Budget Guidelines
Coax or Twisted pair cables work very well as interconnects.
As for speaker cables: 12AWG Zip cord will have less resistive losses and less capacitance than Jon Risch's Cross Coax cable. 10AWG Zip Cord is even better and can be bought at
Partsexpress for less than $0.45/ft (Sound King). They also sell banana and spade terminations.
