DIY 12" JL W6v2 Box

I have read a lot of pages in the Kappa build and they said that it will work for the W6 with a few exception. The cabinet is 22.5" wide x 22.5" deep x 25" tall with a port that measures 12.5" wide x 55" long x 3" tall. If i understand this right i have to move the bracing back 5/8" because of the JL W6's mounting depth. Also, i have read about the rock wools getting in the way of the sub's magnet. I would like to get this clarified before paying somebody to build me a box that will not work. I will be powering this with a Velodyne SPL-800 II. Should i have an extention on the backside of the box to accommodate the amp.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated!

You will probably do good to move it back far enough where you can use the rockwool. This shouldn't be too hard to calculate. Just take the depth of the driver and subtract the depth of the Kappa. i also suggest doubling the front baffle.

I wish someone with more talent than I would put up another build to replace the Kappa Perfect...

I REALLY wish I had the chops:(

I'm not that good with AutoCad, but I can propose several alternatives. I've schooled myself via Andrew, Chris and Mark to put something together.

AutoCAD is a pain for 3D models. I like SolidWorks a lot better. It's easier once you get past the learning curve and makes prettier drawings.

Okay. Let's first decide on an appropriate driver. It should be 12", and comparable to the Kappa Perfect VQ or better, and cost $150 or less before shipping.

No. I'm serious. The Kappa Perfect VQ was discontinued early this year. :(

I think the new driver from infinity would be a first start. Given there history it may be promising.

Another possibility is the Shiva-X however I think the effort would be wasted as Kevin has already introduced a newer likely improved model.

I can at least model the factory t/s parameter on the new Infinity driver when I get a chance to see if it's promising.

I have questions:

First there are a ton of drivers out there in the market. Especially if you consider that the Kappa Perfect is intended for a car audio market. So what do you look at #'s wise to make a short list?

Second I know some of you are in a better position far has having inroads into the circles that can get you the first hand scoop on maybe what to look at.

I have heard great things about the linearity of the Shiva-X so I will throw that one out there.

Maybe the Dayton RSS315HF-4 12. This sub has always intrigued me.

I can't find the specs for the new Infinity Kappa...
It models very well for home theater based on the limited parameters I have at this point. Looks like it may prefer a slightly smaller box than the Perfect VQ. But someone will need to evaluate the driver to get the real parameters.

The Dayton is a fairly linear unit but does not even come close to the Infinity or JL in terms of motor & suspension linearity.

The Shiva-X without seeing 3rd party confirmation appears to be a possible equal to the W6v2/Kappa Perfect VQ units.
