I'm curious about it and throwing out a challenge out there:
Is it possible to design and build at least somewhat decent sub with about $100 in components:

Option a:
Dayton SD270A-88 and SA70
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-486
http://www.parts-express.com//pe/pshowdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-784&AID=1457483&PID=2558074

Other options and ideas welcome :)

I think it'd make sense to desire higher output over extension. No limits on Box size as long as mdf cost wont rise over say $50

No takers? C'mon - Make someone could a simulation
I don't have BassBox or similar software even if I have had them - I wont know what to do..

I messed around with it a little here at work. That driver does not look very good for an HT sub. I could not get much below about 38hz with it vented. It gives out quickly in x-max and it does not handle much power. In a sealed box it has an F3 around 60 and F10 I think was upper 30's. I have a pair of SV12's that I would sell you that will kick the crap out of those drivers. Box was kinda big for both sealed and vented for a 10in driver too. I only just did a few quick models though. It did not look good at first glance to me.

Thanks Jeff, I'd like to be honest - It's nothing more of curiosity... I don't have the tools or the space to DIY ... yet

I know TH would very hard to model and probably stupid idea at this point, but how about dual opposed drivers in sealed box? Is it possible to get F3 at 40 and F6 lower 30s ?

Unless you make an Isobaric you will have to double the box volume. You could get it a little lower with two but the box will be pretty big. I would spend just a few dollars more and get a better 10in designed to go lower.

You might be able to do a 6th order sealed with two and have a smaller box. I am not that familiar with making those though. Someone else might be able to model one for you.

Dual opposed won't lower your F3. It'll raise you max output potential by 6db, and you can maybe use that to EQ the bottom end and add some boost.

The main advantage to dual opposed is that the box doesn't shake, but a good overbuilt, heavily braced, decoupled, critically damped sub box won't do that much either ;P

You really should consider something like a CSS Trio 12 kit. It's pricey but once it's made it'll have been worth it.

Thanks, This is more of learning exercise, and yes - i'm learning. I guess I should get some good book on the subject and stop bugging ya all with stupid questions

Thx G_EV, but like I said - This is just an exercise, I think then I'll be ready to buy/build my own sub - I'll be sure to spend much more than $100 , but for this theoretical question $400 is blown out of our original $100 budget

Just Installed WinISD, I wish I knew that I was doing - it's all over my head, I barely was able to driver param (luckly the software is smarted than me) - the rest is too confusing...

Correct. What I meant to say was by using two you might be able to tune the driver a little lower because of the added power handling, but those drivers pretty much stink.
