i was looking over my Dish bill and i noticed i am paying for 2 HD "services"

America's Top 250 64.99
HD 250 10.00
HD Platinum 10.00

is that right, it dosent seem so, ive noticed if i sort my on screen guide by subscriptions i have multiple duplicate HD channels.

I think that's correct.

Your basic package is the top 250. In addition you're paying an extra 10 bucks for the available HD signals to the channels in that group with HD 250.
On top of that the HD platinum gives you another 10 or so additional HD channels.

Gotta love the cryptic way these guys tack on costs.

My personal favorite is their automatic payment plan that saves you 10 bucks if you sign up for automatic withdrawal.

Of course, at the same time they came out with that plan they raised the rate on the basic plan by, that's right, 10 bucks.
What a coincidence.

lol.. no kidding..

i love dish network service...

i have no complaints, they have great hardware, good channel selection, friendly customer service, lots a freebies (if you ask).

the only thing is, as time goes on my bill is slowly creeping up and up... not a very good "loyalty" perk...

on a side note.. I cant wait for dish/googleTV... :)

I don't think I am paying extra for HD. I know that the HD Platinum gives you a few extra channels that you may or may not watch. I certainly didn't watch them. As far as you seeing duplicate HD channels, are the duplicates way up there in the 9000+ range? I believe that is the actual location of most of the HD channels and Dish nicely remaps them to the same channel numbers as the SD station (Are you listening? Comcast!).

I just recently downgraded from the 250 package to the 120 package and here is what my breakdown looks like:

America's Top 120 W/Locals - $39.99
DVR Service - $6.00
DUO DVR Receiver - $17.00
HD 120 Free - $0.00
Showtime - $13.00
Service Plan - $6.00

You might call them or go to online chat and ask about it. I'm not really sure how the DVR charges work anymore. It seems like they upped the price on that from what it used to be but only charge for one now. They used to charge $5 for each receiver and $11 for DVR service. I guess it works out to be about the same.

I just saw an ad yesterday with one of the founders, saying that HD shouldn't come with a charge or fee and that color TV was free, so HD should be, too.

Get on the horn with CS, not billing. When I have a problem with the DirecTV bill (and I'll be calling soon), I call CS and tell them that I don't need satellite TV and that it's not a life-altering experience for me. They usually throw in some free stuff and drop the bill enough to keep me.

HD Duo (2TV) Receiver$14.00
Service Plan (15/0)$6.00

Thiis my plan.
(I dropped the platinum plan a few months back)
I've been under the impression that this was a typical plan with Dish.
Tell me I've been wrong and I'll be making an unpleasent call to some one at Dish. I'm in the mood today. ;)

I had the service plan for a whole and then I though about who owns the equipment & who installed it- DirectTV, that's who. I told them that if they own it and installed it, they should cover any damaged equipment as long as I don't damage it myself. The CS person agreed and has included it at no charge. They also dropped the charge for HD.
