I have to come here to get my head leveled out at times. I have just started to spend money again on my modest system. I get caught up in the lofty speak of tubes and exoctic separates from around the globe. The shear mad scientist look of some of the stuff, adimittedly, does appeal to my sence of form. But when they start describing audio equipment in the same light as a 200 year old bottle of rare congac, I too begin to realize that that its mostly hype, and the $50 bottle tastes darn near as good, and won't make me poor. Back to earth me boy, back to earth. And don't even think about vinyl, someone started me thinking on that too, and my head started going into wonderland. No.. back to earth. While those endeavors are fun and interesting, and for the wealthy, with lots of time on their hands. Solid state and easy to use discs for me.
I do however want a disc player that I can at least say to myself, you really have not left too many stones unturned in regard to getting the best out my huge CD collection (including HDCDs), some DVD-A, SACDs, and a goodly amount of concert DVDs in varying offerings (DTS, Dolby).
So, I think I am going to go buy a Denon 3930ci Universal Player. I realize the basics, that a $40 wally world player will sound the same as $6000 hot rod player when connected via toslink or coax.
Here is my question to pose to you folks though. (I have decent speakers, mains driven by separate power amp, a rather low-end to moderate receiver provides amplification to the rest of the 5.1, and zone 2, $70 disc player is now connected to reciever via toslink, obviously not getting much with my DVD-A and SACDs right now, I knew that but still collected some).
Once I go to this Denon 3930CI with analog connects, will I get a good deal of improvement ? Or am I still shooting far and above a noticeable difference, say over the very cheap and capable Oppo players (which I took note of). What about those Burr-Brown DACs in the Denon? Does this 3930 sound like a good component to add. Thanks.
