Disadvantage to not using the monitor out on the Yamaha 5760?

Hello, I just recently purchased a new home theater system where the reciever is the Yamaha 5760. Since I didn't have enough component and s-video cables to run from my sources through the reciever and back out to the tv, I just ran the video straight from the sources to the tv and am just letting the reciever process the audio. Now, my question to you is this: Is there a problem with this setup? Is there any reason where it's crucial to run the video through this reciever as well? I've watched about 4 dvds on the new setup and haven't noticed any synching problems, but I'd figure I'd ask the pros.

Thank you.

Direct is best

Your wiring is fine. Video directly from source to display and audio directly from source to audio device is ALWAYS FINE. The main reason to send video through a receiver is for SWITCHING convienence; some people can't cope with needing to change their TV for picture and changing their receiver (processor) for audio. If you can push two buttons instead of one your reward is generally better performance.

Thanks for the info. In my case I'd have to use 3 remotes anyway regardless if I sent the video through the reciever or not :(. Since this reciever up converts only to s-video and I have 2 component devices and 1 svideo device, I would have still had to run at least one component cable from the reciever to the tv and one s-video cable to the tv, which would have made me use 3 remotes anyways. But I did program the reciever remote for the TV which has helped some, but I can't change my aspect ratios with it. Thanks for the replies though.

The one downside that occurs to me is that you won't get the onscreen menus of the receiver. I really find them useful, at least for initial setup & to make changes.
