Dirt somewhere in the light line.

It seems something in my projector got dirty. I tried cleaning the glass, swapping lamps and cleaning the lens externally. Not sure what else to try. Maybe I just need a better cleaner. Any ideas?

I think people will need either a picture showing what you are seeing or a better description. I know in my last projector it was an LCD one and dust always managed to get on the panels and I'd have to open up the case and blow it off the panels with some compressed air.

I had a Benq projector that got dust spots. I had to send it to them to have it cleaned. If I would have tried to open it and clean it myself it would have gotten worse. If its under warranty send it back for cleaning. If you decide to buy a new PJ make sure it has a sealed lens assy. and has a removable intake filter. I would not recommend blowing air into it, for you run the risk of stirring up more dust. If anything try to vaccum it with a small electronics vaccum.

Well I have done some work on it. but still haven't got the spots off of it. I may have to open up that line. To check. I have really gotten to understand the interior of my projector. I cleaned the color wheel and the outer and inner glass between them. I've decided I probably should get a camera cleaning kit and go after it with one of those.

I'm not afraid to open it. The PJ was only 150 and I am a daring enough tech. I am wondering if the internal stuff is vaccum sealed or not? I doubt it is, but hey I don't want to find out the hard way when I open up that area of the projector.

I am trying to clean the external areas first to see if that get's it. If not I am going in.

It's a DLP not an LCD. I'm thinking an LCD would be easier to clean, but I may be wrong about that. Still it's kinda fun seeing my projector in a few pieces. reminds me of when I was a kid.

I've heard compressed air is actually bad for projectors. Using a camera brush is supposed to be better. Which makes since. I mean a Camera is essentially a projector in reverse. The problem came I think after I switch the bulb out. Or after I was cleaning it with compressed gas. I won't do that again.

It is fixed.

:D

So I got out my screw drivers and even got a camera cleaning kit(don't use this) except maybe the brush thingy.

the best way to clean the internal optics of projector is with alcohol or Zeiss Lens Cloths from walmart. The camera cleaner left some residue and I ended up cleaning it with the zeiss cloth.

however the dust wasn't on a lens. It was on the mirror at the back. Some compressed gas blew it off the mirror and now I have a perfectly clean image again. I only need a couple screw drivers. One was a slotted. The other where all Phillips. Though I may need to grease up the focus and zoom again. The image is perfectly clean again. :D

I now have a much more intimate relationship with my projector. I know her much better.

The one thing you have to worry about with the compressed air cans is to be very careful not to make the liquid spray out which would damage the delicate equipment inside.

Glad to hear you got that pesky dust out.

Actually the delicate stuff is enclosed in another box. I'm pretty sure it's sealed.

The biggest issue with compressed gas is that it can blow stuff into places it wasn't meant to go.

Glad to hear it worked out:) Working on a projector is like performing surgery
