direct TV signal, how to improve

My direct TV has the basic coaxial output and an S-video output (Currently hooked up with Coax). MY plasma is native 720P. Is the order of improving resolution like this: RCA, Coax, S-video, component? If so, can I improve my signal by hooking up the s-video, or going one step further and calling Direct for a tuner box that has component? Thanks all.

Get the HD box. In my experience, standard definition satellite boxes (and cable boxes) are the worst possible source you can connect to an HD set.

Any reason you don't have/want HD service??? I'd definately get an HD Box, with HD service, and hook it up with either HDMI or Component Video. Only those connection options can give you HD. What you have right now is a shame to your nice Plasma :D

Amen!

Just changed my uncle to DirecTV (and myself to DISH) and connected his PAnasonic plasma via HDMI. Fabulous!

BUT BUT BUT only 1 of the 2 HDMI inputs works from his DirecTV box. On his Vizio upstairs, the DVD player only worked on 1 of the 2 HDMI inputs. So play around with the setup.

Do please get the HD box & service & HD-DVR. You'll definitely be happy.

After I bought my Samsung 50" DLP, I hit up Directv to switch me over to HD. They said "Gimpy, that will be $9.99 a month more" I'm like hell yeah, thats beer money.

They gave me a new dish, installed it, and an HD receiver for FREE! 10 bucks a month, and they are now up to 90 HD channels and counting.

Go for it!
