Digital to valve amp pre outs

Hey , not sure if I'm posting this in the right spot but I was hoping for some help with regards to my home theatre system.
I don't know much about this stuff but I got a valve/tube amp and speakers off a mate. The front 2 speakers say they run at 25-250 watts. Frequency response is 45 hz -20 kHz Sensitivity is 91 db. And the impedance is 8 ohms. I don't know what most of that means but the amp only has individual plugs for the 5 speakers, there is no hdmi or any digital input, so I can't use it on its own with a blu ray or xbox.
I also have a yamaha rx v667 amp. The manual says it only has 90 watts per Chanel output, so it seems like its not powerful enough to handle the speakers sufficiently?
so the way I have it set up currently is using the pre outs, I power the front 2speakers through the valve amp and I power the sub, back 2 and centre speaker through the yamaha rx v667. This works fine and sounds great but my problem is that when I'm watching a movie or playing a game, if there isn't much sound in a scene, the front speakers just cut out and then cut back in when more sound starts up or someone starts talking, so general ambient noise won't play. It's extremely frustrating. I would imagine its because not enough power is running through to the valve amp unless the sound is loud enough in the scene. Is there any way to fix this. Are there settings i can change? Have I got it set up the right way.? Can my yamaha just power the lot on its own? Or do I need a new amp capable of more than 90 watts per channel?

Welcome to the forum!

If I were you, I'd try running the speakers off of just the Yamaha. You might find it works just great for you.

As for using the amp, you have it hooked up in a good way (with the front two speakers on the amp and the rest connected directly to the Yamaha).

Which amp do you have? Knowing that might help us figure out if there is a setting to change that will help. Perhaps you have it set up to turn on/off based on the input level, or maybe it's just always that way? That sometimes happen to people here with their subwoofers.

It would also be good to know what speakers you are using.

But yeah, you should be able to hook front speakers to the yamaha too. Those power ratings on the speakers are basically useless.

hey
Yeah i have tried it just through the rx v667It just didnt seem to sound as powerfull and clear. The front speakers are quite large , about 3-4 feet tall and have subs in the side. Also the center speaker is quite large; does that change anything ?
I havnt tried just the front 2through the yamaha and the rest through the valve yet, wouldnt that defeat the purpose of having a valve amp?

The speakers and amp are "symphony orchestra"
I got them from a mate for $1500. he paid $5000 about 6 years ago. after looking them up on the internet it seems the consensus is that they are "white van " speakers.
Eitherway they sound amazing to my untrained ear and far clearer than any other speakers ive heard . what do you guys reckon?

It is very unlikely that the valve amp had more power than your receiver. The most likely scenario here is that the amp is fairly heavily distorting the sound and you happen to like it.

Overall though I am having a very difficult time determining what you are trying to convey and you need to find some friends who aren't trying to rip you off.
