Digital Surround 5.1 and PC mouse lag

Hi, back here after a very long time.

I just bought a TCL 55S535. I'm trying to get surround 5.1 from my PC to the receiver. For some reason, when I enable Digital Audio (Dolby or DTS) on the TV, I experience mouse lag on the PC.

For some details, I'm connected from the PC to the TV via the DisplayPort output on my GTX 1070 to one of the TV HDMI ports. FTR, I tried the eArc port on the TV as well, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I connect from the TV to the receiver using an optical cable. Now the receiver is a pretty old Yamaha HTR-6150 which may or may not be a problem.

By default the Digital Audio option on the TV is set to "Auto". When that's selected, the receiver gets stereo audio. When I change the Digital Audio to any of the Dolby or DTS options, the receiver detects the change switches to surround 5.1 mode, which is what I want. However, when the digital options are selected like this on the TV, the mouse on my PC is extremely laggy. I was really surprised and bummed by this.

I've tried some things to get around this, but so far haven't found a solution. Anyone got any brilliant ideas?

What happens when you try a different computer?

In fairness, this can be any number of processing issues, but in my experience over the years, when a computer is involved, and there is a problem, it is the computer that is creating the problem.

I would go ahead and connect the computer directly to your receiver to see if that has the same issue, since that's easy enough to try out.

You could also try the PC with another TV if you have one available to test with to see if the TCL is causing the issue.

But, it just sounds like another PC connected to an AV system issue, and that is just PC related most of the time. And not for any obvious reason other than PCs just don't seem to play well with others. Still.

Thanks for the response.

When you say "computer directly to your receiver", you mean see if I'm able to get surround 5.1 by-passing the TV, and see if I still get lag, right? I'm pretty sure I've tested that, and yes it worked, but I'll confirm that.

I will also test using my laptop connected to the TV instead of the PC. I have not tried that yet.
